This is a “Waiata” – a form of Maori song. This one is a war chant, I wrote it years ago and just found it again.

Away dark shapes that eclipse the moon!
That harbour dread
That visit fear

For the night is mine
The night is mine

Your oppressive winds
Your melancholy sheet
Flee before my light

The night is mine
The night is mine

My dour dreams die
When I lift my candle

For the night is mine
The night is mine

Your shadow quivers in corners
Fading
As your shouts become whispers
Failing

The night is mine
The night is mine

Standing tall I cradle the moon
With an ocean in my heart
And fire in my eyes

This night is mine
This night is mine
