The Lodestone

what is this desire of the moth for the Star?
for concentric flight unto radiance afar
investing its life pursuing a dream
of reaching a spark, that lone moon beam

for each moth does pass, so short of its mark
its brief life extinguished, so near to the start

falling through the air, by circles just travelled
drifting through night as its time is unravelled
never will it kiss that holy cheek
that from cocoon the moth does seek

yet even so, again will wings flutter
beating long throughout night
toward that blazing blue beacon
toward perpetual light
